After the Samsung Omnia debuted in Europe over the summer, many were wondering if any of the U.S. wireless carriers are going to pick it up. So far AT&T has shown little interest, but strong evidence has emerged that Verizon is going to release a version of this Windows Mobile smartphone.
One of this carrier's latest rebate forms clearly includes a mention of the Samsung Omnia, though it gives no other details.
Samsung i770 = Samsung Saga?
Rumors and leaked images about Verizon's plans to offer the Samsung i770 have been around for a while, but the new rebate form adds a new detail.
It includes a mention of the Samsung Saga, which the online retailer Wirefly insists is the i770.
An Overview of the Samsung Omnia i900
The Omnia i900 has a design that focuses on its relatively large, 240-by-400 pixel touchscreen, (see image at right). It'ss one of several smartphones that strongly invites comparison to the iPhone 3G.
It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, but Samsung has added its TouchWiz user interface, which has been designed to make the device easier to use with a fingertip.
The European version of this device has a 5-megapixel camera, a microSD card slot, a TV-out port, a GPS receiver, an FM radio, and a 1440 mAh battery.
More About the Samsung i770/Saga
According to the details that have leaked out, the Samsung i770 will have a tablet shape, with a built-in QWERTY keyboard below a 320-by-320-pixel touchscreen. Between these will be a D-pad that will also function as a trackpad for an on-screen pointer.
Other features that will supposedly be included in this Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microSD/SDHC card slot, and 2 MPx camera.
